LUCAS

OK, this big boy was on a woman's porch in Union, West Virginia. (That is the next town over from Waiteville, WV where I live). Of course, it was a Rottie and she was terrified. So, she called the Sheriff. A deputy came over, put a leash on him and took him to our little small town vet's office. The Sheriff wanted him kept for a while hoping that the owner would be found. Well, after 4 1/2 weeks no one is stepping forward to claim him. Now, something must be done. Rottweilers are not popular around here....which is sad. Our local animal league can not send them on their Angel Train up north. They are not allowed to send Rotties, Chows, Dobies and a few more breeds. No foster parents are available that would take a Rottweiler.

I went to visit him today (Sept. 5). They call him "Pepper" but Mom says that isn't a good name and we should call him "Lucas". What I found was a very healthy looking, friendly fellow. He has been stuck in a small cage and only gets out for short leash walks to go to the bathroom. The vet techs all say he is a good boy. The vet's office is right in town and doesn't have a fenced yard...so the big boy just gets walked. When he was loose in the kennel area he would go to all the cages and visit the other patients. NO aggression shown there at all. Not even with the cats. Energetic yes...rowdy and uncontrollable NO !

The only thing I faulted him on as far as behavior was that he hiked his leg and wet on the corner of a cage. But...he needs to be out more. Can't blame him for that. Now, he isn't a show dog by far, but very handsome.

The vet's office is called Hunters Veterinary Service. It is located at 352 Pond Street, Union, West Virginia 24983. Phone number is 304-772-4650. They are super nice over there. The office manager is Debbie.

We are all in Monroe County, West Virginia. It is in the south end of the state. Cities that you might be familiar with are all in Virginia and we are located close to these three big cities in that state...Roanoke, Blacksburg, or Covington. Roanoke and Blacksburg are close to I-81. Covington is close to I-81 and I-64. When I say close I mean an hour or two away .If you have any other questions about another Virginia city we might be close to, just let me know.

We are DESPERATE to find a good home for Lucas.
