HELP DUTCHESS:

Dutchess's story:

Duchess was owner surrendered to Polk County in November 2014. She was saved by Diana and immediately came to me to foster.

When I first met Duchess she was absolutely terrified of people & would regress to the corner growling and barking in fear of human contact. She had never been an inside dog nor did she have the first clue of behavior expectations or potty training.

One of the major helpers in getting Duchess to transition for me was the fact she loves all other dogs and would allow me to interact with her as long as another dog was there.

The other big helper is she's totally obsessed with food. She's learning how to take treats gently out of your hand and do basic commands to get rewarded.

Since she wasn't potty trained or crate trained, both took some time & extra patience to achieve. She doesn't have any accidents when in her crate, so I recommend crating when away or overnight to minimize the mess.

Duchess is great with some supervision with other dogs, cats, & kids. She never understood how to play with people or dogs until recently and still needs reminding of boundaries at times cause she gets a little over excited.

She loves going on walks or runs and has a lot of endurance & stamina for an active family. The main thing any potential adopter will have to understand is once they win Duchess' trust she's your pal for life, but it might not happen overnight.
