HELP CHINO

The believe he is two years old. They are calling him Damien at Animal Control.

Initially the dog allowed approach to the kennel but began barking and guarding his kennel once we got closer. I knelt down and gave him a few cookies, which he accepted politely, then resumed the guarding once I stood up. I decided to see the female first and come back to see if he’d calmed down.

By the time we returned he was much more relaxed, and allowed the woman assisting me to leash him. He did not appear to guard his bowl with food in it from the staff member when she leashed him. After that he was much better behaved and we took him to the yard. He walked past the other dogs without issues. Once in the yard we did not let him off lead. Even on lead he seemed very confident. He sniffed around a lot and was somewhat interested in the dog two kennels down. He was not overly interested though, he barked a couple times and then ignored the other dog. I did not try to pet him, but the woman handling him patted his back end a few times and he didn’t react to that. I did not see them put him back in the kennel but they didn’t say he was hard to get back in either. Overall I think he is just scared. He is not showing well, and would benefit from going to a more relaxed environment before his behavior worsens.
