STAR'S story:

We were informed that a paralyzed female was found in the streets of Miami, Fl covered from head to toes with ticks.

Because we had previous experience with two other Rottweilers that were paralyzed, diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotter Fever, and had recovered we decided to give this YOUNG girl a chance to survive.

Luciana Pinto a GGARR Rescue Coordinator went to the Miami Dade shelter and transported her directly to Mueller Animal Hospital in Hialeah, FL.  Bathed and dipped to get rid of the ticks. She was taken to see a neurologist who reported that she had some feelings in her back legs, but that without an MRI it was hard to diagnose what problem she shad. At Mueller a blood panel showed that she indeed had Rocky Mountain Spotter Fever and also tested positive for Toxoplasmosis.  She was placed on heavy antibiotics, and transported to Clint Moore Animal Hospital in Boca Raton, FL. to begin her rehabilitation program.  There she was placed under the care of Laurie Kardon, a GGARR Board of Director.

Walked on a dog walker, and placed in a swimming pool daily, she began to recover.  Swimming showed that she was using her legs under water, and soon one day, SHE STOOD UP by herself. Her slow recovery has been amazing, every day she accomplishes something new and those people helping her have several times broken down in tears!

We need help, we really need you to donate something. Her vet bills are going keep growing, but we promised STAR that we would do everything possible for her to fully recover, then find a home for her where she will experience real human love.

Stay in touch with her recovery by visiting our FACEBOOK page where videos are posted.

Guess who met STAR today?? ELVIS!!! Two Rotties with similar stories: Both paralyzed. Both dumped in MDAS without any hope of getting out alive. With just a whisper of a chance of survival, both were rescued by GGARR- Elvis in 2015, Star last month. Elvis and Star recovered fully;  They had a fun afternoon today running and playing side by side and exploring the fields at Clint Moore Animal Hospital,
