BUD - a strong, loving Rottweiler
his story...
While walking my two dogs
on Tuesday, Dec.
18. we came
across a stray male
Rottweiler in South Miami near 62 Ave and Miller Dr.
He didn't approach us and I couldn't get a leash on him.
But I guess he liked something about us because he
showed up in our fenced back yard later that night.
I was alerted to this by some loud conversation going on
between the now three dogs in the back yard. There
was no actual fighting and I got the guy securely put
away in my laundry room for the night.
The next morning
"Bud" and I went to the vet. He walks on
a leash well, rides in a car well, and is a good quality
Rottie so I had some hope that he'd been chipped.
There was no chip. He did not have a collar.
The vet checked him out and said he's generally healthy
and probably about 2 years old. His eyes were mucky but
the vet was not able to examine them well because it
caused a lot of pain. He did irrigate the eyes but
said that Bud got aggressive during the procedure, maybe
because of the pain. To me, Bud seems to not be
seeing perfectly well and this is also probably why he
seems head shy. If it is something with his sight, it
may resolve with treatment. Although he wasn't so
great with the vet, this morning he let me put
antibiotic ointment in both eyes without turning away or
so much as a grumble. He did have fleas and worms
which have been taken care of. He's started on
monthly flea control and heartworm medication. He
does have only one descended testicle. The other
is in his abdomen so neutering may cost a little more
than the usual.
I've checked four
websites and the Herald back as far as June and have not
found a missing Rottie that matches. There are no
flyers around the area for him.
The first night and
morning, Bud seemed very tense, afraid and growled a
little when I petted his head near his sore eyes.
However, he's made huge improvements in trusting me in
less than two days, e.g., the eye treatment this
morning. His whole demeanor with me has changed.
The first day he walked slowly at my side and watched me
closely if I reached for him; today he trotted out in
front and circled back. He stopped to ask for
petting of his back, head and chin. He's going to
bond and develop trust quickly with a thoughtful adult.
I think his physical and emotional (for lack of a better
word) issues are temporary and his special needs will be
short term. He really does seem like a good guy
who's had some bad luck
Also probably ok with cats and other dogs after
appropriate introductions.
BUT IS NOW NEUTERED, UP
TO DATE ON HIS SHOTS, MICROCHIPPED AND READY
FOR...YOU!!!
